The Blessings and the Challenges of Being in a Relationship with a Filipina

Hello, my name is Eduardo from Italy.

I am one of the countless people who entered a relationship, with a Filipino woman, to get happiness, to have intimacy, validation and companionship.

20 years of dealing with multiple challenges, however, got me to adopt a new paradigm down the road, namely that an intimate relationship, and particularly one with a Filipina, is “a spiritual and emotional practice” rather than a place where you get the emotional support that is missing in your life.

There is nothing more powerful than a relationship to grow as a human being and sculpt your soul and your emotional muscles and I’ve found out that an interracial relationship, and particularly one with a Filipina, is the “ultimate” opportunity to stretch the boundaries of your cultural comfort-zone, become a master communicator and take your life to a much higher level in many ways.

A relationship with a Filipina calls for high levels of emotional intelligence, outstanding communication skills and an extraordinary ability to step out of your comfort zone.

Many Westerners, including myself initially, enter a relationship with a Filipina underestimating the challenges involved and not emotionally and culturally prepared to meet them.

In this blog I will be addressing some of the trickiest hurdles of this kind of multicultural marriage and how I went about meeting them.

Some of these challenges include: dealing with your wife’s extended family, financially supporting relatives in the Philippines, communication issues and much more.

I hope my experience will help someone out there who is seeking out advice on how to make his Filipino-Western marriage work.
